At Changemaker Studio, co-founders Tara Heiser and Julie Strating are at the forefront of creating spaces that resonate deeply with the values of sustainability, health and wellness, arts and culture, and youth engagement. Their diverse backgrounds and shared commitment to community development align seamlessly with these core project focuses. Julie and Tara dove into the world of placemaking while serving on the board of directors for the Greater Bridgman Area Council for Growth and Advancement (CGA). They quickly discovered they were a formidable team with a passion for placemaking and the skills required to bring amazing ideas to life for their community. Now they are embarking on a new adventure to help spark change in other communities with Changemaker Studio.

Julie Strating

Julie Strating’s eclectic career, spanning from interior design to the film and television industry, is marked by a creative approach to community spaces that foster arts, culture, and youth activities. Recognized as a Rising Leader by the Michigan Arts and Culture Council, Julie has played a crucial role in crafting enjoyable experiences and spaces through her visionary leadership. Julie served on Bridgman’s Corridor Improvement Authority to make improvements in the commercial district. She is also passionate about documenting the unfolding story of each project, meticulously preserving the “how” and “who” behind every initiative. Her success in grant writing and involvement in local development projects demonstrate her commitment to enriching community life through sustainable, culturally rich, and youth-focused initiatives.

Tara Heiser

Tara Heiser brings over two decades of marketing experience in the tech industry, having worked with giants like InFocus, Iomega, and GE Healthcare. After many years in San Diego, Tara returned to her familial roots in Michigan, where she immersed herself in local initiatives, marking a significant pivot in using her expertise for the betterment of the community. Tara’s history of community involvement, including her work with the Bridgman Foundation for Educational Excellence and volunteering with various social causes, reflects her dedication to creating spaces that promote youth, wellness and community connection.
